The Los Angeles chapter of the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA-LA) announced today that they are accepting applications for its 2020 Scholarship Program. College students pursuing a degree in public relations can apply online at https://hpra-usa.org/pages/los-angeles-hpra-scholarship-program/. The deadline to submit an application is May 22, 2020.
The HPRA-LA Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding academic achievement and community service among undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a career in public relations and related fields of communication (digital communication, marketing, communication). To date, the nonprofit has awarded more than $400,000 to advance the sprouting careers of Hispanic PR professionals.
Previous recipients note that this scholarship has impacted their lives in an immense way and acted as a launching point for their careers. Many past recipients are now leading PR agencies or corporate communication departments across the country.
“More than ever I understand that there will be no real diversity change in any industry if we don’t have Latinos holding executive positions,” said Denisse Montalvan, Vice President of Multicultural Communications at Zeno Group and 2018 HPRA scholarship recipient. “Since being granted a HPRA-LA scholarship that led to my first full-time position in PR, then being surrounded by successful HPRA members that serve as inspiration, to my work today at Zeno Group; I see how all of it has given me a sense of responsibility to support my peers and together make that real change we need in this country; all thanks to that HPRA scholarship.”
This year, the HPRA-LA Scholarship Program will award four undergraduate students and one graduate student scholarships each in the amount of $2,000. Recipients of the HPRA-LA scholarship will also have the opportunity to interview for internships at leading agencies and corporate organizations in the HPRA network and will be granted one year of student membership to HPRA free of charge.
