Marcus & Orchestra Fuego
Orchestra Fuego: I started playing piano in my 20’s and became a professional musician in 1976; performing with some famous artist such as Adalberto Santiago and Rafael De Jesus before starting my own band in 1977, called Fuego ’77. We recorded our first album under the Alegre Records label, which was a subsidiary of the great Fania Records.
LTM: Please tell us about your band members and how this band came together and came to be known as Orchestra Fuego.
Orchestra Fuego: I moved to Florida in 2006, after discovering that several of the musicians who performed with me back in New York during the late 70’s through late 80’s also moved to Florida, I proceeded to contact my friends and formed Orchestra Fuego
LTM: Tell us about your Grammy Nomination? And who you will be going up against to win.
Orchestra Fuego: This is an awesome adventure; we’re in several categories such as Latin, New Album, New Artist and Music Video of the year; we will be up against some great artist starting with Ruben Blades, Isidro Infante and Alberto Barros.
LTM: Is your music original and if so – who writes your music? If not original, who’s music do you tend to gravitate to?
Orchestra Fuego: We compose & arrange all our music and mostly originals. Any cover songs we perform, we do our own arrangement to; take Quimbara for example; a Celia Cruz song, but we did a fresh arrangement to this song. It is part of our second album. Our style is NYC Salsa or “Old School Salsa”
LTM: Who is your favorite Salsa artist?
Orchestra Fuego: Gilberto Santa Rosa is one of my favorite Salsa artist and would also say Marc Anthony.
LTM: What is next for Orchestra Fuego?
Orchestra Fuego: We are just days away from completing our third album titled “Quemando La Pista” and this will have a great variety of Latin music including, Salsa, Son Montuno, Cha Cha, Merengue and a Bachata. We just released our new music video titled “Fuego Colombiano” and we’re now in the process of shooting yet another music video titled “Recuerdos”; to be shot in a 1950’s era.
LTM: What is your favorite biblical scripture and why
Orchestra Fuego: Matthew 6:31-33
NIV: New International Version: 31: So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32: For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
I love this verse, it speaks to me how much God is in control and we should be fully submitted to him. Jesus Christ is the answer, the way and the light.
