I think my favorite part of the Cuban Sandwich contest at this year’s Carnival in Miami was the mystery.
Over 12 Different unique creations all competing for the crown. It was an epic ‘game of thrones’ style ‘lucha’ over lechón, jamón and mustard piled handhelds. And although there were two different categories of warriors (traditional vs. non-traditional) this local Miami-boy was swayed strongly by the winds of his authentic Santiaguero roots. Nothing like an original Cuban sandwich acompañado by a good influencer friend Miriam Campos Galindo and of course the Mayor of Miami Tomas Regalado!
I was lucky and blessed to be part of this experience as many Cubans have been when they took the leap of faith to leave their homeland to come to America like my grandparents. But if there’s one lesson I’ve learned over the years is that as long as you stick to your roots, put passion and love into everything you do, you will surely come out a winner!
