SUNCOAST CREDIT UNION GASPARILLA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

ANNOUNCES FILM SCHEDULE, TICKET SALES AND PRICING

TAMPA, Fla. (March 3, 2015) – Suncoast Credit Union Gasparilla International Film Festival announces its official 2015 program selections. The 9th annual film festival offers 140 films and attracts enthusiasts, filmmakers and talent from across the globe in celebration of artistic excellence in cinematography. The juried competition will screen feature films, short films, student films, international films, documentaries and Florida-focused films, along with special award recognitions, Q&A sessions with filmmakers and actors, education panels and festivities beginning Tuesday, March 24th through Sunday, March 29th 2015. Tickets are available for purchase online and range from $12 for adult regular screenings and $10 for students and seniors.

This year’s film schedule is the largest line-up to date and has more features than any previous year. Of the features: 13 are World Premiers, four are USA Premiers and 20 are Florida Premieres. There are 60 feature films and 70 short films. All films are included in the competition, with the exception of opening and closing night films and three free family screenings. Awards include the most-coveted “Best Narrative Feature” and “Best Documentary”. Almost all films will be represented by film production or cast members who will host a Q&A session after the film. In attendance will be nearly 200 directors, producers and talent, offering festival attendees the opportunity for a unique, interactive experience.

 The festival program will feature in-depth, informative Industry Panels, including, Women In Filmmaking, Casting Directors (including Hollywood heavyweight, Laray Mayfield), Filming In Florida, Financing Filmmaking (moderated by Suncoast Credit Union ) and Hollywood Producers Randall Emmett and Mitch Glazer.

 This year’s acclaimed opening night film is The Surface, starring Sean Astin, Chris Mulkey and Mimi Roger. Director, Gil Gates, Jr., Writer and Producer, Jeff Gendelman, Astin and Mulkey will be in attendance and host a Q&A session after the film. Tickets for the film are $15. A ticket to the film and admittance to the “Stella Artois VIP Opening Night Reception”, presented by Merril Lynch, is $55. The reception, from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM, will offer complimentary food tastings from area restaurants. The open bar with offer Stella Artois beer and Dark Horse wine. Guests are invited to glam it up to walk the Red Carpet and have the opportunity to mingle with filmmakers, directors, producers, and stars during the reception. The Surface will be shown at7:30 PM. Opening night will be held at the historic Tampa Theatre, located at 711 N. Franklin Street, Tampa, FL 33602 on Tuesday, March 24th. Parking is available via on-street metered spaces, area lots and City of Tampa parking garages.

 The “Opening Night After Party”, will be held after the film, at Anise Global Gastro Bar, located at 777 N. Ashley Drive, Tampa, FL 33602. Conveniently located within walking distance of the theatre, the event will feature free cover charge and offer drink specials.

 On Wednesday, March 25th, Mayor Bob Buckhorn and special guests will be in attendance for the official Channelside Cinema’s Suncoast Credit Union Gasparilla Film Festival grand opening, a special ribbon-cutting (or in this case, film-cutting) event scheduled from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM. This event is free and the public is invited to attend. Channelside Cinemas will host film screenings and festival activities Wednesday, March 25th – Sunday, March 29th. The cinema is located at Channelside Bay Plaza, 615 Channelside Drive, Tampa, FL 33602. Parking in Channelside is available via on-street metered spaces (limited), area lots and the Channelside Parking Garage.

Festival festivities continue at the “Wednesday Night After Party”, beginning at 9:00 PM, at Hablo Taco. Located in the same plaza as the cinema, the event at Hablo Taco will feature free cover charge and offer drink specials.

The “Thursday Night After Party”, beginning at 9:00 PM, will be held at Splitsville. Located in the same plaza as the cinema, the event at Splitsville will feature free cover charge and offer drink specials.

The “Bacardi Nights Party” on Friday, beginning at 9:00 PM, will be held at Channelside Bay Plaza, Suite 203. The event, sponsored by Bacardi with “150 years of starting parties”, is $10 or free to attend with any film ticket or pass. Guests will enjoy live music, including a special performance by Cuban Singer Carlos Varela and a cash bar offering specialty rum drinks, like the Bacardi Mojito and Cuba Libre.

Festival festivities continue with the highly anticipated “Big Party by New Amsterdam Vodka”on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 PM, at Channelside Bay Plaza, Suite 123, on the waterfront. Guests are invited to party with filmmakers and stars, indulge in complimentary beverages, including New Amsterdam Vodka’s signature cocktails, Stella Artois beer and Dark Horse wine and enjoy heavy hors d’ vours. Local favorite “DJ Fresh” will entertain guests until 2:00 AM.  Tickets are available for $65.

 This year’s acclaimed closing night film, Preggoland, is a Tampa Premiere from Director Jacob Tierney. The Canadian film, a comedy/drama, tells the story of Ruth, a 35 year-old woman who pretends to be pregnant to fit in with her friends. Although she initially tries to come clean, the perks of pregnancy are too seductive to ignore and she soon finds herself living a lie. The film stars Sonja Bennett, James Caan, Danny Trejo, Paul Campbell, and Laura Harris. Writer/Star Sonja Bennett and Producer Dylan Collingwood will be in attendance. The film makes its Tampa debut at Channelside Cinemas on Sunday, March 29th at 6:30 PM. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

New for 2015 is Suncoast Credit Union Gasparilla Film Festival’s Family Fun Day. March 29th, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, is the family-friendly event at Channelside Bay Plaza and will offer free film screenings of Toy Story, The Goonies and Ghost Squad in addition to fun activities, games and prizes, casting calls, and red carpet walks. The event, presented by Suncoast Credit Union, is free to attend and families are encouraged to bring their children and enjoy the afternoon festivities. A special high school film competition is also part of the line-up on Sunday.

 Culminating the six-day festival, the awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 29th at 4:30 PM in Theatre 1 at Channelside Cinemas. During the event, which is free to attend, filmmakers will be congratulated for accomplishments and competition winners announced, including awards from the Grand Jury and Audience Choice for each competition category.

The final event of the 2015 Suncoast Credit Union Gasparilla International Film Festival is the “GIFF Wrap Party” held in the lobby of Channelside Cinemas on Sunday, March 29th from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The event is free to attend and will offer a cash bar. The wrap party brings together filmmakers, film enthusiasts, festival organizers and volunteers, and the festival’s sponsors whose contributions make the festival possible.
